One of Owensboro’s existing companies cut a ribbon on a $4.4 million industrial site with rail. Castlen Steel is an industrial design company that engineers, fabricates and installs grain and fertilizer storage tanks, silos and storage buildings among other services. Matt Castlen and his wife launched their welding business in their garage in 2008 and has since grown out of the garage and their services to include on-site assembly and installation of industrial and agricultural infrastructure and equipment. Since the company acquired a 92-acre former steel mill site, a three-phase plan will include building warehousing space and offer rail car repair. The company will also add manufacturing operations for conveyors, hoppers, conditioners, towers and bucket elevators which will also require the addition of more employees. The company has grown significantly since the start in the family’s garage. Taking advantage of the opportunities offered by their community has enabled them to grow even more.
