Owensboro— Monday, March 5, 2018Site Selection Magazine has ranked the Owensboro metro area among the Top 5 metro areas of 2017 for Total Projects. The Owensboro metro area debuted nationally in 2016 at 7th among Tier 3 metros—metro areas with fewer than 200,000 population. In 2017, Owensboro jumped to 2nd in the nation. The Owensboro Metro Area consists of Daviess, Hancock and McLean Counties.

“We’re honored to be among an elite group of communities nationwide”, said Mark Snell, President & CEO of the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation (GOEDC). “It demonstrates the confidence of our existing industries that our community is a great place to be, that we’ll do everything within our power to help them prosper, and that we value them as members of our community. And it does not go unnoticed by industries looking for places to locate.”

Daviess County Judge-Executive, Al Mattingly, said, “This recognition reinforces the efforts that the City, County, GOEDC, and Commonwealth are making in workforce training, education, infrastructure, and place-making. When the County created its Economic Development Fund in 2012, we hoped it would lead to this type of recognition.”

Owensboro Mayor, Tom Watson, said, “The global attention that this recognition brings will motivate us further to create not only well-paying jobs, but also a quality of life and place, an entrepreneurial ecosystem, and an education system that will cause people to stay here for life-long careers.”

“GOEDC could not function without the generous support of its public and private investors,” Snell said. “But, equally, the support and cooperation that we receive from government officials and their staffs — at all levels – is remarkable. We also benefit from a unique partnership with the most innovative and collaborative group of educational leaders anywhere in the Commonwealth. And our industry-led GO FAME/GO CAREERS work-based educational program is the model program of its type in Kentucky.  Simply put, when it comes to education and workforce development, our region is the most innovative in Kentucky”.

Dr. Scott Williams, President of Owensboro Community and Technical College said, “This recognition is truly an honor for our community and a testament to its innovation and hard work.  It further validates that our strong industry and educational partnerships with industry led, work-based education is making a big impact.  Owensboro Community and Technical College is proud to partner with our business and industry in producing a world class workforce for our region.”
