Healthcare

Owensboro Medical Health System (OMHS) serves an 11-county region in Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana with a mission to heal the sick and to improve the health of the community. OMHS operates a full-service hospital, providing the services of 200 physicians and employing a workforce of more than 3,000.  The hospital provides premiere heart services through its partnership with Louisville’s Jewish Hospital Heart and Lung Institute and is home to the Owensboro Cancer Research Program, a joint venture with James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville. OMHS also operates two outpatient diagnostic centers and Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center, along with Western Kentucky Rheumatology Center, Pennyrile Pulmonary Critical Care, a Wound Healing Center and the McAuley Clinic, which provides health care for the uninsured. 

 

OMHS opened the HealthPark in 1998 to make health education, wellness and fitness services available to the community. The Health Resource Center provides diabetes and nutritional counseling, including a weight loss program utilizing a versatile meal replacement. An adjoining diagnostic center offers complete radiology and lab services and Convenient Care, an urgent care center. The HealthPark’s second story houses a state-of-the-art fitness center and outpatient physical therapy. Individual and group personal training is also available, along with land and water aerobics classes. Other HealthPark services include locker, shower, and towel service; a competition size pool and warm water pool, along with a gymnasium, racquetball courts and a 1/10 mile walking track. RiverValley Behavioral Health provides mental health, substance abuse and mental retardation/developmental disability services in a seven-county area. It opened a new office in Owensboro in 1998 in the Cigar Factory Complex. The remodeled lower level of the complex contains the agency's offices for outpatient therapy, case management, DUI education, prevention center/library and administrative services. RiverValley also provides residential programs as well as inpatient treatment for children ages 5-18 at RiverValley Behavioral Health Hospital.
