Are you originally from Owensboro? If not, when did you move to Owensboro? Why did you move here?

I’m from Richmond, KY and moved to Owensboro in 2014. I was tired of being in a long-distance relationship, so I moved to be closer to my boyfriend. We’re planning our wedding for 2020!

What would you say to someone thinking about moving to Owensboro?

Do it! Owensboro has the charm of a small-town, but with many amenities of larger cities. There is always something to do – from live music downtown, to kids activities at the library, to shopping and dining at local boutiques and restaurants. There is really something for everyone. And if you want to visit a bigger city for a weekend trip, you’re just a two to three hour drive away!

What has been the biggest surprise about Owensboro to you?

I think the biggest surprise is how active the Owensboro community is. Kentuckians always top the lists for heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. Being in a community that values health and wellness is refreshing. There are multiple running and cycling groups you can join, a variety of studios and gyms to meet your needs, and a passionate community that motivates you to reach your wellness goals. The city and county have also invested in green spaces with plenty of parks in the area, as well as, the Greenbelt which provides a free place to run, walk, or bike your way around town.

How do you enjoy spending your free time/weekends in Owensboro?

In my free time, I love to work out at the Healthpark, spend time with friends, and read or listen to podcasts. I also stay busy with my second job as an adjunct professor at Kentucky Wesleyan College. I teach Introduction to Public Relations and Introduction to Advertising courses. I really enjoy the challenge teaching provides and getting to know the students over the course of the semester. I pride myself in making my classes fun and applicable with real world examples and providing resources and connections for their future careers.

What advice would you give to a young professional looking for a career in Owensboro?

Get to know as many people as possible and be open to joining networking groups. I’ve been fortunate to meet great people in our community through Junior League of Owensboro, Chamber Young Professionals, Leadership Owensboro and my church. I think the more people you can meet and connect with, the quicker you can make a new place feel like home.
