Owensboro Distillery Returns to Its Original Name

What has been known as O.Z. Tyler Distillery will now be Green River Distilling Company, a name change of renaissance and revitalization, returning to the original name of the distillery, which was founded in 1885 by John McCulloch.

During the peak of the original distillery’s popularity, a fire broke out on the property in 1918, which destroyed most of the buildings and barrels. Though the distillery was eventually rebuilt, with Prohibition going into effect in 1920, the Green River Distillery did not come back in its original name. After a few different ownerships, Terressentia purchased the distillery in 2014 and began renovations. In 2016, the O.Z. Tyler Distillery opened for production. Just two years later, in 2018, the distillery became the westernmost destination of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

Green River Distilling Company is the fourth largest independent bourbon distillery in the U.S., producing 90,000 barrels of bourbon and rye a year. The Owensboro community is proud to welcome the Green River Distilling Company back home.
