Taylor Burchett

Are you originally from Owensboro? If not, when did you move to Owensboro? Why did you move here?

I am originally from Scioto County, Ohio, just up the river a few hours. I moved to Owensboro in September 2020 to take a job with the Green River Area Development District. I spent four years at Georgetown College for school and loved my time in Kentucky. A friend from Georgetown who lives in Henderson passed along the GRADD job posting and I jumped on the chance to get back to the Commonwealth. I am thrilled to now be able to call Kentucky home!

What is your favorite thing about Owensboro?

My favorite thing about Owensboro is the people. I felt welcome here from the second I arrived. Even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, I feel that so many people have taken an extra step to show their hospitality toward me as a new resident. For my job, I also get to speak with many members of the community. This has been something I really enjoy.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about moving to Owensboro?

I would say go for it! Owensboro was never on my radar until I applied for a job here. I was so focused on my excitement for a new job opportunity and never took much time to come up with expectations for Owensboro aside from that. But I have already come to love it here. For me, the area is a great mix of city and country. If you can’t find the restaurant or store that you want here, you can easily find it close by. Owensboro feels like a wonderful place to establish yourself and I look forward to doing just that.

How do you enjoy spending your free time/weekends in Owensboro?

So far, I enjoy going to the farmer’s market, getting take-out from local restaurants, and walking by the river. A lot of my free time is spent already planning a small backyard garden for the spring! I am looking forward to exploring even more of what Owensboro has to offer.

What advice would you give to a young professional looking for a career in Owensboro?

Get to know people. Make connections. I haven’t been here long, but Owensboro already seems like a place that has many opportunities for young professionals such as myself. There are so many ways you can make an impact on this community and I would encourage you to be open to those opportunities.
