Owensboro Whiskey Makes a Splash on Louisville’s Whiskey Row

Owensboro’s own Green River Distilling Co., the 10th oldest licensed distillery in Kentucky, has officially opened its new tasting room in the heart of Louisville’s famed Whiskey Row, bringing “Whiskey Without Regrets” from the banks of the Ohio River to the bustling Main Street district.

The new 4,400 square foot space at 714 W. Main Street is a tribute to Green River’s rich, 140-year heritage and Owensboro roots. From copper tanks and lighting salvaged from the original DSP-KY-10 site to an immersive tasting experience that includes personalized bottles and straight-from-the-barrel pours, the new location keeps Owensboro’s story at its core, even in a new city.

“This new space captures both the grit of our Owensboro origins and the spirit of play, surprise and community that defines us now,” said Dan Callaway, Master Blender at Green River’s parent company, Lofted Spirits.

Guests can enjoy walk-in tastings, shop exclusive bottles, and explore the hidden “Dept. of Spirit Preservation,” a speakeasy-style lounge with a barrel-strength decanter experience you can’t find anywhere else.

This expansion is more than a milestone for Green River, it’s a moment of pride for Greater Owensboro.

From the heart of Western Kentucky to the heart of Whiskey Row, Owensboro whiskey is officially on the Louisville map.

LinGate Hospitality Wins National Owner-Operator of the Year Award

Owensboro is making headlines once again… this time on the national stage. This prestigious recognition celebrates the best in the business, and LinGate is leading the way.

Their win reflects not only their dedication to excellence, but also Owensboro’s emergence as a top-tier travel and hospitality destination. Special thanks to Visit Owensboro for helping to showcase the charm, energy, and heart of our city.

Owensboro Hotel Occupancy Hits All-Time High

Hotel occupancy in Owensboro has reached an all-time high, according to the latest reports, signaling a surge in both tourism and economic momentum. The city is riding a wave of growth, continuing to draw major conventions, meetings, and sporting events—living up to its title as Kentucky’s number one sports town. In the month of April alone, Owensboro played host to national conferences, The Great Race, Spring Rally, All “A” Baseball and Softball State Tournaments, the GMAC Conference Tennis Championship, and the American Junior Golf Association tournament. This level of activity is grabbing national attention and proving once again that Owensboro is punching well above its weight.

March’s hailstorm and April’s flooding helped Owensboro hotels to a record 72% occupancy rate in April.

Mark Calitri, president of the Owensboro-Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau, said that was up 7.5% from April 2024’s 64.5%.

The average room rate in Owensboro hotels climbed to $125 a night from the $117 rate a year ago, he said.

Calitri said, “We’re moving in the right direction.”

Calitri said the year-to-date estimated occupancy rate here is up nearly 6% over the same period in 2024.

He said the VIP Bourbon Experience during BBQ & Barrels sold out to fans from 11 states.

Calitri said local businesses benefited from the festival.

The Pub on Second, he said, reported a 40% sales increase over last year.

Well Crawled, Owensboro

Owensboro hosted its first-ever Downtown Small Biz Crawl in celebration of National Small Business Month, and the turnout was nothing short of amazing. The Crawl was organized by the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation in partnership with the City of Owensboro and Downtown Owensboro Inc., with additional support from WBKR’s Chad & MKat and the Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown. It was a strong reminder of what makes Owensboro great: a community that shows up for its own.

Cheers to good ideas, Owensboro.

Coffee, Copy & Kentucky Weddings with Kentucky Bride Magazine

In honor of Mother’s Day and National Small Business Month, we’re shining a spotlight on one of Owensboro’s most inspiring duos: Sandy and Kate, the mother-daughter team behind Kentucky Bride magazine. From page layouts to press deadlines, their journey is filled with resilience, creativity, and plenty of coffee. In this heartfelt guest post, Kate shares what she’s learned along the way—about business, family, and finding beauty in the unexpected.

Kentucky Bride is a print magazine that showcases beautiful Kentucky weddings and businesses, and it’s also something I never imagined owning. People often ask us how Kentucky Bride started. The short answer is that we (Sandy and Kate, a mother-daughter duo) acquired the magazine in November of 2016 and learned everything we could learn about publishing as fast as we could learn it. The longer answer is that our lives changed drastically in 2009 when my dad (Sandy’s husband) passed away suddenly at the age of 49. We were living in Louisiana at the time and would eventually move home to Kentucky in 2010.

Once back in Owensboro, my mom started dabbling in photography, and a hobby quickly turned into Studio 929, a successful business. I was in college and started working alongside her on the weekends. We specialized in wedding photography and photographed our last wedding in 2021. After that, I knew I would need a plan for my career—I’m introverted and work best alone, while she is outgoing and one of the most personable individuals you can meet. When I unintentionally discovered Kentucky Bride was for sale in 2016, it felt like the perfect marriage (no pun intended) of my wedding industry experience and English degree. The pieces fell into place quicker than we could have imagined, and here we are now. There is much overlap in what we do, but my primary responsibilities include copy and design of the print magazine, while my mom handles advertising accounts and blogging. We’ve spent the past near-decade growing what was already a beautiful brand and showcasing the best of Kentucky weddings on newsstands and online. Along the way, we hope we’ve inspired Kentucky weddings to be better than ever.

Owensboro’s small business community is all about celebrating the win, and it’s been a great place to launch our businesses. From the days of our photography studio downtown to the remote work we do now, there’s always someone in our corner cheering us on. Don’t underestimate the value of local connections and community. Aside from that, one of the greatest things we’ve learned in small business ownership is the power of the pause. Whether it’s in solving a problem, publishing a post, answering a disgruntled email—thinking about what you say and how you say it can impact your business in major ways. We’re in a culture that’s made it incredibly easy to respond quickly, when sometimes the wisest thing to do is think of the best way to respond. Obviously, some things need immediate attention, but most things can wait until you have time to respond thoughtfully and nonreactively. It’s simple advice, but taking a breath can save you from those “Why did I say that?” moments.

We’ve learned countless lessons along the way, but the journey sure has been fun. I could say that my favorite Kentucky Bride moments have been photo shoots and seeing our magazine on newsstands, but my favorite moments have been those spent with my mom—coffee dates and proofreading until our eyes hurt, party planning, and road trips. Weddings are similar to preparing a magazine for publication—design, aesthetics, planning, proofreading, and you only get to do the same issue once, so you want it to be perfect. Spoiler alert: Things aren’t always perfect, and that’s okay. There’s a lesson to be learned in that, too. In business and in life, sometimes the best part of a thing is who you have alongside you. – Kate

Unlocking America’s Energy Future with Texas Gas’ New Natural Gas Pipeline Expansion Project

Texas Gas Transmission, LLC (“Texas Gas”), a subsidiary of Boardwalk Pipelines, LP and a leader in reliable energy infrastructure, is announcing a non-binding Open Season for the Borealis Natural Gas Pipeline Expansion Project (“Borealis” or “Borealis Project”). This transformative project aims to bolster America’s energy future by tapping into the abundant Marcellus and Utica shale gas reserves, delivering reliable and affordable natural gas to meet the growing energy demand across our expansive footprint—from Ohio to Louisiana.

Project Overview

The Borealis Project enhances Texas Gas’ existing 5,975-mile pipeline network by connecting prolific Marcellus and Utica supply basins with growing demand markets. By utilizing the existing Texas Gas footprint and minimizing the need to construct new facilities, Borealis offers a streamlined, efficient expansion to create up to 2 Bcf/d of incremental transportation to markets from Ohio to Louisiana.

Texas Gas will also entertain bids to extend further upstream, connecting to Utica and Marcellus supply sources and enhancing access to these reserves. Together, these efforts ensure a dependable incremental flow of natural gas to fuel electric utilities, independent power producers, local distribution companies, producers, LNG exporters, industrials and data centers across our service territory.

“This project strengthens the link between some of America’s most abundant energy reserves and the communities and industries that rely on them every day,” said President and CEO, Scott Hallam. “It reflects Boardwalk’s ongoing commitment to meeting demand through innovative infrastructure solutions that create long-term value and meaningful impact.”

Key Benefits for Our Customers

  • Reliable Energy for a Growing Nation: Borealis delivers a steady, reliable supply—ideal for electric utilities powering communities, independent power producers meeting peak demand, local distribution companies supplying residential, commercial and industrial end-users, producers seeking market access, data centers driving the digital economy, and LNG exporters supplying affordable energy around the globe.
  • Cost-Effective Solution: Leveraging Texas Gas’ existing footprint, Borealis minimizes costs and construction, which helps maximize value for shippers.
  • Critical Infrastructure: Borealis meets America’s surging energy demand with a timely and resilient solution that expands Texas Gas’ ability to provide reliable and robust service.

Non-Binding Open Season Details

Texas Gas invites interested parties to participate in this non-binding Open Season to express interest in firm transportation capacity on the Borealis Project. This process adheres to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission guidelines for interstate pipelines, ensuring transparency and equal opportunity.

  • Open Season Period: Begins April 1, 2025, and ends at 5:00 PM CT on April 30, 2025.
  • Capacity Offered: Up to 2.0 Bcf/d of firm transportation service.
  • Term: 20-year preferred term, other terms may be considered.
  • Submission Process and Confidentiality Agreement: Participation in this non-binding Open Season will be considered confirmed upon the execution of a Confidentiality Agreement (“CA”). Additional project information, including proposed rates and terms, will be provided upon execution. To request a CA, please reach out to one of the contacts listed below.

Following this non-binding Open Season, Texas Gas will engage in further discussions with all participants who have executed a CA and may proceed to binding commitments.
